Injury Registry Update
There are 168 new fireworks-related injuries reported today. The total number of cases as of 03 January 2008 is 756, which is 246 cases (25%) lower than previous 3-year average (Fig. 1) or four hundred fifty six cases (38%) lower than the same period last year. There was no case of watusi ingestion. There were eleven stray bullet injuries.

| | Cumulative Surveillance Findings | A total of 737 fireworks related injuries, 18 stray bullet injuries and one watusi ingestion were reported from December 21, 2007– January 03, 2008 from 50 sentinel sites. Five hundred seventy ( 75%) injuries occurred from December 31,2007 to January 1, 2008. | | A. Fireworks-related Injuries | Majority, 608 (80%) were males, Ages ranged from 4 months to 84 years (Median 15): 266 (35%) cases were children 10 years and below. Five hundred eighteen (69%) cases were from NCR (Table 1). Five hundred thirty (70%) sustained blast/burn injury without amputation, 154 (20%) with eye injury, 52 (7%) with amputation.
