Injury Registry Update
There are 281 new fireworks-related injuries reported today. The total number of cases as of 01 January 2008 is 446, which is 385 cases (46%) lower than the same period last year. And the lowest number of cases since 1999. There are six stray bullet injuries and no watusi ingestion. No deaths reported.

Fireworks-related Injuries | Majority, 350 (78%) were males, Ages ranged from 4 months to 84 years (Median 16 years) : 136 (30%) cases were children 10 years and below. Three hundred nineteen (72%) cases were from NCR (Table 1). Three hundred thirteen (70%)sustained blast/burn injury without amputation, 96 (22%) with eye injury, 29 (7%) with amputation. Two hundred sixteen (48%) directly handled firecrackers, among which 42 (9%) were under the influence of alcohol. | Figure 2. | | B.
